SURF APNEA - ADELAIDE - 07 SEPTEMBER 2019
Time & Location
About The Event
Instructor : Jason Rice
Location : Adelaide Aquatic Centre. Adelaide.
A full day course providing essentials for dealing with intense situations such as surfing hold downs. The course uses freediving and surfing insights giving you a deeper understanding of what the human body and mind go through when stressed under water on a single breath. You will learn theory, develop an understanding of the breath hold journey, perform simple effective exercises and learn training methods to develop adaptations to overcome “Intense situations” such as surfing hold downs. Topics covered include: Dive Reflex. Urge to Breath. Breathing and relaxation technics. Static Breath Holds. Swimming and Dynamic Apnea training methods. Safety protocols when training. At completion of the course you are provided with comprehensive course notes.
Gear required - swim goggles (not a dive mask), surf wetsuit plus swimmers or boardies (If your are not a strong swimmer we suggest you bring body board or similar style rubber swim fins).
NOTE: Although most pools are around a constant 27 degrees C you can expect to be in the water for a few of hours. Your body will cool dramatically during static breath holds so thermal protection is highly recommended. We suggest a surf vest or wetsuit worn over swimmers or boardies so it can be removed once we venture into the more vigourous components of the water session.
Prerequisite: Ability to swim 200m unassisted.
